About the Job
The platform is used by merchants to setup new products, publish new/updated offers, create assortments, update inventory, on-boarding, competitive pricing which collectively offer great shopping experiences for our customers. With hundreds of millions of existing SKUs and tens of thousands of SKUs being added every day, this team works on challenging problems to process millions of updates to content, prices, inventory levels and other cross cutting data elements in realtime using multiple distributed systems and custom purpose built solutions that are performant and extensible. With an increasing e-commerce footprint and the new partners (Jet.com, SHOES.COM, hayneedle, BONOBOS, VUDU, MooseJaw etc) joining Walmart family, this team is required to operate in an agile environment adapting to changing requirements.
As an engineer in this team you are given autonomy in technical choices to achieve a business outcome and are expected to drive technical innovation from design to operations, in all phases of the software development lifecycle. You will be measured based on technical innovation you bring to the team , quality of your work and collaboration with your peers. BS in Computer Science or equivalent with 5+ years of professional experience in software development or M.S in Computer Science with 2+ years professional experience in software development.
• Strong Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design , functional programming, data structures, algorithms and complexity analysis.
• Above Intermediate Level Expertise in using open-source big data technologies to build large scale data processing applications (Apache Hadoop, Spark, Storm etc.).
• Above Intermediate Level Expertise required with SQL databases, NoSQL databases (cassandra, mongodb), database modeling, and ORMs.
• Obsession with writing robust code, operational excellence and customer experience.
• Experience with AJAX, XML/XSLT, SOAP, caching technologies, web protocols, Web services technologies.
• Knowledge of Linux/Unix and a scripting language like perl/ ruby.
• Demonstrated Ability and willingness to multi-task and learn new technologies quickly.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Experience with reactjs, electrode, Spring Framework, Java EE technologies.
Experience working in a fast-paced, agile e-commerce environment.
Experience dealing with issues like resource contention and scalability in multi-threaded web applications.
Experience taking ownership of building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to end users.
Knowledge of best practices for the full software development life cycle.
Technical design skills with an emphasis on distributed and/or cloud-based design and scaling, Solid understanding of large-scale, cloud-based distributed systems, benchmarking.
Experience Mentoring Junior Software Engineers.
Experience with distributed systems, agreement protocols (Rift, Paxos), consistent hashing, circuit breaker, distributed locking, replication and load balancing.

Catalog Platform Engineering Team, Merchant Technology is at the core of the Walmart e-commerce and store businesses. The Catalog Platform is a set of sophisticated, scalable systems deployed on proprietary Walmart private cloud using a Walmart owned and open sourced cloud management and application lifecycle management platform (OneOps). These micro services are required to be of low latency, high throughput, fault tolerant and highly available
